BALI "WET SEASON" PUMPING!
Bali's 2016-2017 Wet Season started 6 weeks later than usual around mid November, but winds have swung around week to week, so there have been good, relatively uncrowded waves on both sides of the island. Even Kuta and Uluwatu have been offshore more often than usual. But now that January's NW wind pattern has finally set in, it has been offshore on the East Coast most days, with great sessions at Keramas, Turtle island and Nusa Dua. Rain has increased, and is usually heaviest January and February. The "Dry Season" can start anywhere from early March to mid April, so start planning your 2017 Indo Surf Trip of a Lifetime!
Last year's El Nino conditions delivered epic "Best Waves of a Lifetime" along the entire Indonesian archipelago. April and May were especially good. Then June kicked in with ultra-high tides and massive swells! July saw a solid 8-12 foot swell for the Rip Curl Padang-Padang Cup. Then two huge swells hit in October and November, proving "late season" can always turn it on. Thank you El Nino! .

& Weather Prediction: From JANUARY to end of MARCH
The least crowded surf all year. Hot and humid as the Wet Season kicks into gear from January when it can pour for days. But the wind is always offshore on the less crowded East Coast, and sets are consistently head-high. Bali's West coast can still surprise with early morning glass. Swell average: 3-5 foot, with 8-10 foot sets every 2 weeks.
Surf Seasons: Bali is renowned for always having a 4 foot wave somewhere on the island. All year you can be guaranteed head high surf most days, with an 8 to 10 foot swell pumping through every couple of weeks. And 12 foot plus every 6 weeks or so.
Starting in April the famous lefts on the west coast enjoy offshore sunny perfection through till the end of October. This is considered the BEST time of year for guaranteed surf and sunshine. The biggest swells usually hit from June to September. November and December see winds start to swing, with less consistent variable conditions until January. The monsoon winds set in until the end of March, bringing plenty of swell during the less crowded "Wet Season".
No matter what time of year you go, the waves are always surfable, and it's always offshore on one side of the island. The "worst month" in Bali can still be better than "the best month" back home.
April, May and June see the least crowded quality surf. July and August see peak crowd and swells, and September often pumps. November and December are usually the least active months, and then the east coast rights pump from January to March when it rains a lot which keeps crowds down. And remember there are usually glassy early mornings on both sides of the island, offering uncrowded waves to the early risers among us. There really isn't an "off season" because Bali is always going off!
